P2Max on Ubuntu

I was using the P2 Max with Windows, firmware .27. The only thing that didn’t work well is a high battery drain when powered off.

I’ve been progressively more annoyed at Microsoft’s pushing Edge, outlook, and now ads in Windows, but the last straw was not upgrading decent hardware to Win 11 and dropping support for Win 10 devices next year, so I finally bit the bullet and switched to Ubuntu. (Except Blue Iris and Tag That Photo, which are Windows only, so I keep one Windows machine running.) This switch has gone pretty well – essentially the only thing I miss is WinSCP, but freefilesync has similar functionality if a bit of a learning curve for me.

I installed Ubuntu on the P2 Max. I haven’t gotten the fingerprint reader to work (Ubuntu doesn’t detect it) but the touchscreen is very responsive and the P2 works well on Ubuntu. It is a great little computer and runs python like a champ. Webcam and speakers are fine. Overall, no problems with Ubuntu on P2 Max.
